Car tailed, blocked, shot dead: Chilling details emerge in Suvendu Adhikari aide's killing, police call it planned murder
PTC News Desk: An already volatile situation in West Bengal has further been pushed to the brink after the late-night killing of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari's personal assistant Chandranth Rath triggered panic, anger and heightened security across Kolkata and adjoining districts.
The killing comes days after the BJP emerged victorious and Trinamool Congress suffered a crushing defeat in one of the most bitterly fought elections. The defeat became even more drubbing as outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lost in her bastion Bhabanipur.
Meanwhile shocking detaile have emerged in the brutal killing of Rath what police describe as coordinated attack. Motorcycle-borne assailants tailed Rath's white Scorpio SUV before intercepting it near Doharia in Madhyamgram late Wednesday night.
The attackers opened fire while Rath was still seated inside the vehicle. The SUV driver was also injured in the attack and was first rushed to a hospital in Madhyamgram before being shifted to Kolkata for advanced treatment.
"Rath was hit in the right abdomen and left chest. The bullets pierced through the heart," doctors told the police. According to the police, the attack was carried out with precision and the murder seems to have been committed by professionals.
"The shots were perfectly aimed. Not a single hit the SUV's body or front windshield. A couple of bullets hit the driver as he was close to the target. The rest hit Rath's vital organs," the officer added.
A suspicious four-wheeler has also been recovered and further investigation is underway. Police officials said the car was used to block the path of Rath's SUV when it had slowed down near the signal. The shooters fled the scene and dumped the vehicle at an isolated location.
