Chandigarh 17-year-old murder case: Accused shot in leg during encounter after he opens fire at police

PTC News Desk: Chandigarh Police on Saturday shot the accused in the murder of 17-year-old boy,  a former student of St Joseph’s Convent School, during an encounter. The Chandigarh Police Operation Cell carried out the operation in the Sector 50 forest area, shooting the suspect in the leg.

He is suspected of being linked to the network of Lucky Patial, a gangster associated with the Bambiha gang.

Investigators believe that Naetik was killed at the behest of Arsh Mehar, a fellow student with whom he had a rivalry. Arsh allegedly arranged the killing after a video showing an assault went viral. Arsh is Mann’s younger brother.

On Friday, Arsh reportedly accompanied the shooter to identify Naetik before the latter was shot. One bullet hit an auto-rickshaw driver in the shoulder, while another struck Naetik in the chest. Naetik later died during treatment at a hospital.

According to Chandigarh Operation Cell DSP Ranjot Singh, Arsh and his brother were arrested on Friday. On Saturday morning, a police team led by Inspector Sekhon took the two accused to the Sector 50 forest area, where they had allegedly hidden pistols.

During the recovery operation, Arsh revealed the location of the pistol he had hidden. Police recovered the weapon.

According to the DSP, while police were searching for the second pistol, Mann picked up a concealed weapon and fired at the police team. The bullet struck Assistant Sub-Inspector Pradeep in the chest, but his bulletproof jacket protected him from serious injury. Police then fired two rounds, while the accused fired one shot. Mann was injured by a bullet during the exchange of fire.
