Chandigarh court sentences 84-year-old man to 5 years in jail for molesting 10-year-old girl
PTC News Desk: A Fast Track Special Court in Chandigarh sentenced an 84-year-old man to five years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for allegedly molesting a 10-year-old girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 after he was convicted in the case.
The case relates to an incident in a locality in Chandigarh, where a complaint was filed alleging that a 10-year-old girl had been molested. After receiving the complaint, the police immediately registered an FIR and launched an investigation.
Based on the evidence collected during the probe and statements of witnesses, the police filed a chargesheet against the accused in court.
The trial was conducted in the District Court's Special Fast Track Court.
During the proceedings, the court examined the evidence, witness testimonies and other documents presented by the prosecution before convicting the 84-year-old accused.
While announcing the sentence, the court awarded the convict five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a Rs 25,000 fine. The verdict is being seen as a strong message against crimes committed against children.
