PM Modi claimed that the AAP government is allowing open loot and corruption in Punjab.
"Congratulations to Punjab for its development works, said the PM. "Finally, once again, I congratulate Punjab for its development works. Say with me Bharat Mata Ki Jai (Victory to Mother India)."
The Prime Minister said on visiting the Jalandhar Cantt station, people will get a sense that the nation is on its way to becoming a developed country. He described the station not merely as a railway station but as a city centre, noting that its capacity has also been enhanced. He added that the stations at Anandpur Sahib and Muktsar Sahib have likewise undergone a complete transformation.
He noted that local artisans have also found employment opportunities through this initiative, and that self-help groups in the area have been provided facilities to sell their products. He explained that since Jalandhar is known as a sports city, visitors to its station will get a glimpse of this sporting identity. Similarly, he said, the Anandpur Sahib station will feature an image of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, while the Kalka station will offer a representation of Mata Kalika.
The Prime Minister said Indian Railways is the mode of travel for the poor and middle-class citizens. However, he pointed out that everyone is aware of the state of the railways prior to 2014. He alleged that the Congress government would merely announce new trains and leave it at that, without follow-through. Stations, he said, were left to fend for themselves, with no attention paid to stations dating back to the British era.
He observed that the railway development work being carried out today should have been completed 30-40 years ago, but such work never featured in the agenda of previous governments, which did not even discuss these issues. He asserted that India cannot become a developed nation without such infrastructure. He added that railway stations across the country are today undergoing a complete transformation, with more than 1,300 stations currently being modernised.
The Prime Minister said today he would also like to commend the people of Jalandhar, who made this event even more meaningful through their "Cleanliness Welcome" initiative.
He noted that the message of collective effort given by Guru Ravidas has been brought to life by them today. On this occasion, he also paid tribute from this platform to Punjab's brave son, Sardar Teja Singh Samundri.
He noted that today marks his 100th martyrdom anniversary. Sardar Teja Singh Samundri dedicated his entire life to saving the country from British rule.
The Prime Minister stated that the foundation stone for the new section of the Ludhiana Bypass–Katra-Delhi corridor was laid today. On this special occasion, he extended his heartfelt congratulations to his brothers and sisters of Punjab. He noted that while the BJP is not in power in Punjab, the NDA government at the Centre is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the state's development.

No discrimination against Punjab
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said although the BJP is not in power in Punjab, the Centre is fully committed to the state's development. He stated that the BJP-led NDA government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure Punjab's progress. His remarks came in response to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has repeatedly accused the Centre of discriminating against the state.
Congress made false promises on railways
PM Modi said the Indian Railways is the primary mode of transport for the poor and the middle class. He alleged that before 2014, the Congress government made repeated announcements about new trains without delivering on them. He also claimed that railway stations were neglected for decades, with many still in poor condition since the British era. According to the Prime Minister, the railway modernisation projects being carried out today should have been completed 30 to 40 years ago.
Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jalandhar on Friday, security was tightened across Punjab, with police increasing surveillance at railway stations, highways and other sensitive locations.
In Ludhiana, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, along with senior police officers, inspected the railway station and nearby areas to review security arrangements and ensure all necessary measures were in place for the Prime Minister's visit.
"When our government came to power, we launched the Swachh Bharat Mission for the country. We worked to make India free from open defecation and carried out campaigns to improve cleanliness in public places. We also made several efforts to make cleanliness a part of our daily lives.
I would especially like to appreciate IPS officer Inderjit Singh Sidhu from Chandigarh. He became known as a Swachhata Sipahi (Cleanliness Warrior), and that is why he was honoured with the Padma Award.
A cleanliness-themed welcome programme was also organised here. I saw it on social media, and I congratulate the people of Chandigarh for this initiative."
The Mohali Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Chandigarh on July 17. The advisory will remain in force from 12 noon to 3PM.
According to the advisory, traffic moving from Chandigarh towards Karoran/Forest Hills and from Karoran/Forest Hills towards Chandigarh will be diverted via Nada Road/Bridge. Similarly, traffic moving from Chandigarh Lake or PEC (Punjab Engineering College) University towards Nayagaon will be diverted via Kaimbwala Road.
Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria felicitated Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chandigarh, where the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over Rs 4,700 crore across the healthcare, education and road infrastructure sectors.
Nadda said very good work has been done in the medical education sector. At least 1.85 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been established. Secondary and tertiary healthcare have been strengthened. "We have done extensive work over the last 12 years. At the end of the last century, there was only one AIIMS. Now more than 23 AIIMS are functioning. Earlier there were 387 medical colleges; now there are more than 818 medical colleges. 75,000 UG and PG seats will be added," he added.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda said Chandigarh is the Prime Minister's own city. It has been his karmabhoomi (place of work/action). He spent a long time here for party work. "I'm happy that he stayed in Chandigarh to give momentum to advancing the party in North India," he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to arrive at the venue shortly. Tight security arrangements have been put in place for his visit.
The venue is packed with people, and several prominent personalities from the city are also present.
During the event, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth around ₹6,600 crore.

Hours before PM Modi's scheduled visit to Punjab, the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) has announced statewide protests against the BJP-led Central Government at district headquarters across the state on Friday. The KMM has also demanded the constitution of a commission to inquire into the killings of innocent Hindus and Sikhs during the militancy period in Punjab in the 1980s and 1990s.
Punjab Youth Congress (PYC) president Shuvam Sharma Shubi was detained at the Ladowal toll plaza on Friday while travelling to Jalandhar, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the redeveloped Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station.
The Youth Congress had planned to show black flags during the Prime Minister's visit, demanding answers from the Centre over the alleged NEET exam paper leak and recruitment-related issues.
According to the Congress, the detention was intended to stop party workers from holding a peaceful protest.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to arrive in Jind shortly. Ahead of his visit, Jind Railway Station has been beautifully decorated with flowers, while elaborate security arrangements have been put in place.
The train has also been adorned with a variety of flowers, including marigolds, tuberoses, orchids, and other colourful blooms. Both the interior and exterior of the train have been decorated with floral arrangements.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Chandigarh and Punjab today (July 17), where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for projects worth over ₹12,070 crore.
The Prime Minister is expected to arrive in Chandigarh at around 1:15 pm and will address a public rally in a centrally air-conditioned tent built at a cost of around ₹2 crore. He is scheduled to stay there for about 45 minutes.
After Chandigarh, PM Modi will travel to Jalandhar, where he has four official engagements.
Heavy security arrangements have been made for the visit, with more than 10,000 police personnel and security officials deployed across Chandigarh and Jalandhar.

PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab on Friday (July 17) to launch three major highway projects worth Rs 5,278 crore in the Chandigarh Tricity region. The projects are aimed at improving road connectivity and reducing traffic congestion.
During the visit, PM Modi will inaugurate the Zirakpur-Kurali Greenfield Highway and lay the foundation stone for the Zirakpur Bypass and the Chandigarh Airport-Aerocity Greenfield Highway. These projects are expected to make travel smoother and help ease traffic in the Tricity area.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to flag off the Sant Ravidas Express, a new train connecting Amritsar with Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
