Cloudburst in Mandi triggers flashfloods, Kiratpur-Manali roads blocked

PTC News Desk: A massive cloudburst over Shalanal Nala in Mandi district on Sunday morning caused heavy destruction, sending water and debris gushing onto the Kiratpur–Manali four-lane at Takoli, which disrupted traffic and damaged property.

The downpour brought down boundary walls around the office and residential colony of the infrastructure company Afcon, forcing employees to flee for safety. While no casualties were reported, several houses sustained extensive damage. Landslides triggered by the rain also blocked the Kiratpur–Manali highway between Mandi and Kullu near Jhalogi.

District police teams have been deployed to handle the situation and initiate restoration. Officials estimate it may take four to five hours to reopen the highway. The alternate Kataula–Kamand route connecting Mandi and Kullu was also impacted, though it is expected to be cleared soon for light vehicles. Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and follow police updates.

Meanwhile, Pandoh dam authorities have issued a warning that water may be released from the reservoir in view of the cloudburst in Takoli.
