NEET protest: CJP calls off September 5 Delhi march after Centre’s compensation assurance
PTC Web Desk: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has decided to withdraw its proposed September 5 march in Delhi after the Centre gave assurances before the Supreme Court regarding compensation for families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide.
CJP spokesperson and co-convener Saurav Das informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the organisation would call off the march in view of the government’s assurance and the directions expected from the court.
Das told the court that the party had taken the decision after considering the Centre’s assurances and the legal weight given to those commitments during Tuesday’s hearing.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, assured the Supreme Court that families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide would receive compensation within three months.
The Centre also requested that the Supreme Court use its powers under Article 142 to bring an end to FIRs registered against NEET protesters between July 20 and July 25 in different parts of the country.
The Delhi Police had separately told the court on Monday that it no longer wanted to pursue 13 FIRs linked to the CJP-led NEET protests in July.
The decision to withdraw the march came a day after the Supreme Court declined to stop the CJP’s proposed September 5 mobilisation.
On Monday, the court said there were no compelling reasons to assume that the proposed protest would become violent. It left the responsibility for deciding the law-and-order arrangements and any conditions for the march to the Centre and the Delhi government.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, also emphasised that all sides were expected to maintain peace and operate within the law.
With the Centre’s latest assurance and the Supreme Court’s directions, the CJP has now decided to withdraw its September 5 march.
