Doctors sell newborn after declaring him dead in UP, arrested

PTC News Desk: Two doctors allegedly sold a newborn after declaring him dead in the Panchpedwa area of the district. They have been arrested, officials said on Wednesday.

According to Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar, Pushpa Devi, wife of Jai Jairam, a resident of Jhovva village in the Gora Chauraha Police Station area, was admitted for delivery on October 29 to the Mission Hospital and Maternal Child Surgical Center in Pachpedwa.

Pushpa Devi gave birth to a child following surgery.

According to the complaint, the doctors who performed the cesarean operation on Pushpa, Dr Akram Jamal and Dr Hifzur Rahman, sold her newborn to Nisar, the councillor of Badhni Nagar Panchayat Ward No 2.

When Pushpa Devi regained consciousness, the doctors informed her that her child had died, but she insisted that the child was still alive.

The mother continued to visit the hospital and demanded the return of her child.

Pushpa Devi filed a complaint at the Pachpedwa Police Station on Sunday, citing suspicions of wrongdoing, which resulted in the arrests of Dr Akram Jamal and Dr Hifzur Rahman.

Police recovered the newborn from Councillor Nisar's home and returned it to the mother at their request. Police are attempting to apprehend the councillor, who fled to Nepal following the incident.
