Excise Policy Scam Probe: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to appear before CBI

New Delhi, April 16: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to appear before the CBI on Sunday in connection with the excise policy case. He will be accompanied to the agency's office by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and members of his cabinet. Kejriwal is being summoned as a witness and is not an accused in the case.

Kejriwal has claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been targeted more than any other party in the last 75 years. He has also said that if he was found to be "corrupt" then no one in the world was "honest". Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju responded to this statement, saying that Kejriwal would go on to file a case against the court if convicted.

The CBI may ask Kejriwal about the policy formulation process, especially about the "untraceable" file which was earlier slated to be put before the Delhi Council of Ministers. They may also quiz him on the statements of other accused, his role in the formulation of the policy and his knowledge about alleged influence being cast by certain liquor businessmen and 'South lobby' members.

The AAP has denied any involvement in the alleged bribery and the policy was later scrapped.
