Farmers to stage 'rail roko' stir on October 3, to hold maha panchayats ahead of Haryana polls
Farmers' protest at Shambhu border: Farmer leaders on Saturday made a big announcement as farmers held a massive gathering at the Shambhu border to mark the 200th day of their ongoing protest.
According to the announcement, farmers will hold a nationwide 'rail roko' stir on October 3. The rail roko protest will continue for
2 hours. Furthermore, farmers' organisations will meet on September 8 and hold mahapanchayats in Haryana's Jind and Pipli on September 15 and 22, respectively.
Outlining the demands, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said, "It's been 200 days since the agitation...On October 3rd, to seek justice for the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and other demands such as MSP and loan waivers for farmers, we called for 'Rail Roko' across the country beginning at 12:30 PM."
"Given the Haryana assembly elections, the two forums will convene and announce their programs. Tomorrow, a Mahapanchayat will be conducted in Uttar Pradesh. We urge everyone to join in the Mahapanchayat in huge numbers. We'll have a Mahapanchayat in Jind on September 15 and in Pipli on September 22."
Pandher also accused the centre of using central agencies. He further stated that because the election is scheduled in Haryana, the BJP is concerned about the farmer's protest. Farmers are protesting at the Shambhu border near Ambala, where they have been camping since February 13.
