PTC Web Desk: In a major step towards digitising identity verification, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has unveiled the new Aadhaar mobile application, designed to enhance security and accessibility for Indian citizens. The app, developed in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), integrates artificial intelligence and face ID authentication to offer seamless, contactless Aadhaar services via smartphones.

Announcing the launch on X (formerly Twitter), Vaishnaw said the app brings Aadhaar verification to the fingertips of users—making it as simple and instant as scanning a UPI QR code.

With this digital advancement, individuals will no longer be required to carry physical Aadhaar cards or submit photocopies at hotel receptions, retail outlets, or during travel. Instead, identity verification will be conducted through a secure QR code scan followed by real-time face authentication.

"This app is 100% digital, secure, and shareable only with the user’s consent," the minister said. “No need to hand over Aadhaar photocopies anymore.”

The Aadhaar app, currently in its final stages of Beta testing, is expected to be rolled out nationwide soon. It offers users complete control over their personal data, allowing them to share only the required information during verification, thus enhancing privacy and security.

The app will soon enable Aadhaar verification at multiple ‘points of authentication’ across the country. Similar to the widespread presence of UPI payment QR codes, Aadhaar QR codes will allow citizens to verify their identity quickly and efficiently.

This move is part of the government’s broader digital push to make essential services more secure, accessible, and user-centric.
