PTC News Desk: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old woman from Bengaluru, who is reportedly the leader of Al-Qaeda terror module in the Indian Subcontinent.

The accused woman has been identified as Shama Parveen.

According to the reports, Parveen was the key conspirator and coordinating operations of the entire module from Karnataka.

Her arrest follows a series of earlier arrests made on July 23, when four terror suspects — aged between 20 and 25, were taken into custody from Gujarat, Delhi, and Noida. Identified as Mohd Fardeen, Sefullah Kureshi, Zeeshan Ali, and Mohd Faiq, the suspects were reportedly in contact with each other via a social media app and were allegedly assigned high-profile targets across India.

The authorities have claimed that the group has cross-border links and the handlers reside outside India. The investigation has also revaled that the group was planning coordinated attack at prominent locations.

As per the recent UN report, Al-Qaeda is avtively operating out of India in an attempt to expand its footprint in the Indian subcontinent.

The 32nd report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team of the UN Security Council's 1267 Sanctions Committee warned that AQIS, led by emir Osama Mehmood, is being shaped to spread operations across Jammu and Kashmir, Bangladesh, and Myanmar.
