Handcuffed and dejected: 50 Haryana youths deported from US over illegal entry, police probe donkey route trail
PTC News Desk: A group of around 50 individuals deported from the United States have been reunited with their families on Sunday, confirmed police officials.
Of the deported group, 16 are residents of Karnal district, 14 are from Kaithal, and five belong to Kurukshetra. They were escorted to their respective hometowns under police supervision and handed over to their families following a brief inquiry.
Kaithal SP Upasana confirmed that 14 youths have been deported by the US and the police are verifying their background. “All have been handed over to their family members," said the SP.
Earlier in July, the the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed that US has deported 1,563 Indian nationals since Donald Trump assumed office. Most of the deportees have been sent back.
Meanwhile, many of the deported immigrants — mostly aged between 25 and 40 — voiced deep disappointment over their return, saying they had spent several lakhs of rupees, sold their land, borrowed from relatives, and exhausted their savings to reach the U.S. in search of a better life.
Naresh Kumar, one of the deportees, shared that an agent had initially demanded ₹42 lakh to facilitate his travel to the U.S., but he eventually ended up paying as much as ₹57 lakh.
