The recent rainfall has had a significant impact on the Panchayat and Nagar Panchayat, necessitating immediate monitoring of the situation. The observed loss is extensive, making the recovery process extremely challenging. Numerous large houses have been destroyed, leaving many people homeless. The convergence of the Beas and Parvati rivers in this area has disrupted the natural river course, resulting in a substantial diversion. This diversion is primarily responsible for the majority of the damage witnessed. In light of these circumstances, the central government is providing full support to the affected state to aid in relief and recovery efforts.

In Jalandhar, the water level of the Satluj River has decreased, resulting in a greater influx of polluted blackish water into nearby fields and villages. This change can be observed distinctly as the water from the Satluj River and the Chitti Bein reveals visible disparities. These two water sources converge at the location near Mandhala village, highlighting the impact of the reduced water level on the composition of the flowing water.
The water level in the Yamuna River within the national capital has continued to rise, surpassing the danger mark and reaching 208.46 meters on Thursday morning. Authorities reported that at 7 am on Thursday, the water level on the Old Railway Bridge registered the same height. As a result of this surge, low-lying areas in the vicinity, including the Nigam Bodh Ghat, have been flooded.
The escalating water levels of the Yamuna have significantly disrupted traffic on the GT Karnal Road, with the river breaching the warning mark. Additionally, the inundation of low-lying areas has impaired traffic movement on Mahatma Gandhi Marg between IP Flyover and Chandgi Ram Akhara, Mahatma Gandhi Marg between Kalighat Mandir and Delhi Secretariat, and Outer Ring Road between Wazirabad Bridge and Chandgi Ram Akhara. The situation poses challenges for commuters and necessitates caution in affected areas.
As the Yamuna River continues to surge, surpassing the danger mark over the past two days, it has now reached an all-time high level. The water level measured at 207.95 meters at 9 pm, surpassing the previous record of 207.49 meters set in 1978. This unprecedented rise in the river has resulted in the submergence of low-lying areas within the city, triggering concerns and necessitating the evacuation of approximately 16,000 individuals from risky areas.
The situation has raised alarm bells in the city as authorities work diligently to manage the consequences of the record-breaking water level.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted a successful joint rescue operation, saving 28 shepherds/trekkers who were stranded in Kinnaur's Kara area in Himachal Pradesh. With rising water levels, 11 individuals found themselves trapped 15km away from Kafnu village.
On July 10, a team comprising NDRF, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Home Guard personnel commenced the rescue mission. Despite road blockages, the team persevered, eventually reaching the stranded group. They spent the night at a local school, ensuring the safe evacuation of all those in distress.

A tragic toll of at least 25 casualties was recorded on Wednesday across rain-ravaged northern states including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. These fatalities further escalate the total death count to 116, caused by the incessant rain, landslides, and flash floods this monsoon season.
Uttar Pradesh witnessed the highest number of deaths, with 13 reported in the past 24 hours. An official confirmed that nine individuals drowned, while one fatality each resulted from lightning strikes, snakebites, and house collapses. In response to the ongoing crisis, the weather office issued a "yellow" alert for 58 districts, predicting heavy rainfall for Thursday.
As a result of a breach in the Sutlej River, approximately 50 villages, comprising 36 in Jalandhar and 14 in Sultanpur Lodhi, are grappling with severe flooding. The incident occurred with a 100-foot breach in Phillaur on Monday night, followed by two additional breaches at Mandala Channa and Gatta Mundi Kasu villages. Consequently, vast areas of Gidderpindi, Shahkot, and Lohian in Jalandhar have been submerged under water.

Weather Highlights: The Yamuna River in Delhi has experienced a significant rise in water level, causing widespread flooding in the region and necessitating emergency measures. The water level reached 208.46 meters at 7 am today, surpassing the danger mark by three meters.
The Hathnikund barrage in Haryana continues to release water into the river, aggravating the situation. The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government had appealed to the central government to intervene and halt the water discharge, but the center responded by stating that the excess water from the barrage needed to be released.
The current surge in the Yamuna River can be attributed to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, located north of Delhi. The region has witnessed substantial destruction due to the monsoon rains, causing the Hathnikund barrage to fill up rapidly and necessitate the release of excess water.
As the water level rises, several areas in Delhi have been severely affected. The Civil Lines area, including the Ring Road, has experienced extensive flooding. The road connecting Majnu ka Tila with Kashmiri Gate ISBT has been closed, which is situated merely 500 meters from Chief Minister Kejriwal's residence and the Delhi Assembly. Moreover, Old Delhi has been particularly hard-hit, prompting authorities to advise against using the Nigambodh Ghat cremation ground. The flood situation has compelled numerous residents to vacate their homes, with thousands already evacuated. Gathering in vulnerable areas has been banned to mitigate further risks.
The Central Water Commission has stated that water flow from the Haryana barrage is expected to gradually decrease from 2 pm onwards, offering some respite. To aid in rescue operations, 12 teams from the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in the affected areas. These teams are working diligently to provide assistance and support to those in need.
Despite the relatively modest rainfall in the national capital over the past few days, the discharge of water from Haryana has resulted in severe hardships for residents residing near the Yamuna River. The monsoon season has brought an unprecedented amount of rain to Delhi, setting records for rainfall accumulation over the past few decades.
The escalating water levels of the Yamuna River in Delhi have led to widespread flooding, causing distress and displacement for residents in affected areas. The urgency of the situation prompted the Arvind Kejriwal government to request intervention from the central government, but the release of excess water from the Hathnikund barrage was deemed necessary. Efforts are underway to minimize the impact of the flood and provide assistance to affected individuals. As Delhi continues to face the challenges posed by the swollen Yamuna, attention and resources are being directed towards managing and mitigating the flood situation.
