The national flag at Rashtrapati Bhavan fly at half-mast on Tuesday as one-day national mourning is being observed in the country following the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister and other high-ranking officials in a helicopter crash.

National flag fly at half-mast as India mourns death of Iran President Ebrahim Raisi

PTC Web Desk: The national flag at Rashtrapati Bhavan fly at half-mast on Tuesday as one-day national mourning is being observed in the country following the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister and other high-ranking officials in a helicopter crash.

The Government of India declared a one-day national mourning on Monday, May 21, 2024. The National Flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India on the day of mourning, and there will be no official entertainment, the Ministry of External Affairs said.


Iran's president, foreign minister, and several other officials were found dead on Monday, hours after their chopper crashed in a foggy, hilly region of the country's northwest, Iran state media stated.

A home ministry spokesperson confirmed that Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Hossein Amit-Abdollahian, the country's foreign minister, died in a helicopter crash.

"As a mark of respect to the departed dignitaries, the government of India has decided that there will be one day's state mourning on May 21 (Tuesday) throughout India," the spokesperson said, adding  "On the day of mourning, the national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India on all buildings where the national flag is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day."
