NCW launches 24x7 short-code helpline 14490 to support women in distress
PTC Web Desk: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has introduced a new 24x7 short-code helpline, 14490, aimed at offering faster and more accessible assistance to women experiencing harassment, violence or any form of distress across India.
According to the commission, the helpline will serve as the first response point, guiding callers, coordinating with relevant authorities and ensuring timely action during emergency situations.
Designed to be easy to remember and toll-free, the short-code helpline is integrated with NCW’s existing number 7827170170, ensuring uninterrupted support without additional cost or delays.
The National Commission for Women stated that this new initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen women's safety systems and increase nationwide accessibility to immediate help and legal guidance.
The NCW added that the launch of 14490 is expected to significantly enhance outreach and ensure that women in vulnerable or urgent situations can seek assistance quickly and efficiently.
