PM Modi speaks to Iran President following US strikes on nuke sites, urges de-escalation
PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Modi on Sunday spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian over US precision airstrikes targetting three key nuclear sites in Iran while expressing deep concern over the development in the Middle East and called for immediate de-escalation in hostilities.
The President briefed PM Modi in detail on the evolving situation. The call lasted 45 minutes.
The President described India as a friend and partner in promoting regional peace, security and stability and thanked Prime Minister Modi for India's position and call for de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy. He said India’s voice and role were important in the restoration of regional peace and stability.
"We discussed in detail about the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability," PM Modi wrote on X after the call.
Just hours after the United States carried out airstrikes on Iran’s key nuclear sites — Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan — Iranian President reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a national address, US President Donald Trump hailed the operation as a "spectacular military success" and cautioned that further attacks would follow if Iran chose to retaliate. He claimed the strikes had accomplished their main objective: crippling Iran’s nuclear enrichment program.
