Poonch terror attack: Punjab's four jawans among those killed; White Knight Corps pays tribute

Poonch terror attack: The names of five soldiers killed in a terrorist attack on a truck in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch on Thursday have been released by the Indian Army.

According to the details revealed, four jawans who were killed in the attack were from Punjab. The deceased soldiers have been identified as havildar Mandeep Singh, lance naik Debashish Baswal, lance naik Kulwant Singh, sepoy Harkrishan Singh and Sepoy Sewak Singh, informed the Army's 16 Corps based in Nagrota.


According to the information received, Havildar Mandeep Singh belonged to Ludhiana's Chankoian Kacan village, Sepoy Harkrishan Singh was from Gurdaspur district's Talwandi Barth, Lance Naik Kulwant Singh from Moga's Charik and Sepoy Sewak Singh belonged to Bagha village of Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda district. Meanwhile, Lance Naik Debashish was from Orissa's Algum Samil Khandayat village in the Puri district.

Expressing grief over the tragic incident, White Knight Corps said that it "salutes the sacrifice" of five soldiers who were killed in a terror attack and that it stands in solidarity with the bereaved families.

"White Knight Corps salutes the sacrifice of Hav Mandeep Singh, L/Nk Debashish Baswal, L/Nk Kulwant Singh, Sep Harkrishan Singh, Sep Sewak Singh, who laid down their lives in the line of duty in the Poonch Sector today. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families," it said.

Earlier on Thursday, an Indian Army truck was attacked by unidentified terrorists, leaving five soldiers dead. The truck reportedly caught fire after the use of grenades by terrorists.

"An Army vehicle moving between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in the Rajouri sector in J-K was fired upon by unidentified terrorists today. The vehicle caught fire, due to the likely use of grenades by terrorists," Army said on Thursday.

"Five personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles Unit deployed for Counter Terrorist operations, in this area, have unfortunately lost their lives in the incident," it added.

Meanwhile, a soldier who sustained serious injuries during the attack was immediately evacuated and rushed to the Army Hospital at Rajouri. He is currently under treatment.
