Ratan Tata flags 'deepfake' video of him giving investment advice

PTC News Desk: Ratan Tata, the veteran industrialist and former chairman of the Tata Group, issued a "fake" alert on Wednesday over a video of him giving investment advice on Instagram. The fake video shows the industrialist giving investment advice. It was shared by Instagram user Sona Agarwal and the caption of the post offered users a 'chance' to exaggerate their investment 'risk-free'.

The fake Instagram post included a fake interview with Ratan Tata in which he referred to Agarwal as his manager. Agarwal's Instagram caption read, “A recommendation from Ratan Tata for everyone in India. This is your chance to exaggerate your investment right today risk-free with 100% guarantee."

Deepfake videos of many famous people have recently gone viral on social media, prompting netizens to react with shock, horror, and panic.

The most recent victim of deepfakes was actress Priyanka Chopra, who was seen in another deceptive video promoting a brand and revealing her annual income.

Unlike other actors, Priyanka's face in controversial videos has not been edited. Her voice and lines from the original video, however, have been replaced with a fake brand ad.

In a similar incident, actor Alia Bhatt was seen in a deepfake video that turned out to be fake. Alia Bhatt's face is superimposed over another woman sitting on a bed in the viral video.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar met with social media platforms on Tuesday to review their progress in combating misinformation and deepfakes and stated that advisories will be issued in the next two days to ensure platform compliance.
