Red Fort blast: NSG sniffer dog Donny gets Army award on Independence Day for detecting explosives
PTC News Desk: Not all heroes wear capes, some wear a harness. The National Security Guard's (NSG's) K9 Donny detected explosives concealed in a vehicle and averted a major tragedy following the Red Fort blast in New Delhi in November 2025.
As a result, he was awarded the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Commendation Card on Independence Day for his act of bravery.
Donny, a specially trained explosive detection dog from the elite NSG K9 Unit, played an important role after the VBIED blast near Delhi's Red Fort in November 2025, which killed 12 people and critically injured 32 others.
According to officials, Donny was deployed at the Red Fort on November 10 to check and secure the blast site. Despite the debris and high-security risk, the canine detected traces of explosives, helping forensic and security teams secure the area and rule out the possibility of further attacks.
Two days later, on November 12, Donny was deployed in Khandawali, Faridabad, to inspect a vehicle suspected of carrying explosives linked to the Red Fort blast. Once again, he detected the presence of explosives, providing important leads to investigators and helping prevent further damage.
