TMC names Abhishek Banerjee for Op Sindoor panel delegation amid Yusuf Pathan controversy
PTC News Desk: The Trinamool Congress has named party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for an all-party delegation for Operation Sindoor global outreach. The development comes a day after Baharampur MP Yusuf Pathan distanced himself from the delegation.
Announcing the decision, the party wrote on X, "We are delighted to share that our Chairperson Mamata Banerjee has nominated Nat'l GS Abhishek Banerjee to represent Trinamool Congress in the all-party delegation for India’s global outreach against terrorism."
"At a time when the world must unite to confront the growing threat of terrorism, Abhishek Banerjee’s inclusion brings both conviction and clarity to the table. His presence will not only reflect Bengal’s firm stand against terror but also strengthen India’s collective voice on the global stage," the statement added.
Trinamool Congress expressed its discontent and said that Centre did not consult with them before choosing names for the delegation. “They (Centre) cannot decide the name. If they request the mother party, the party will decide the name. This is the custom; this is the system. We are with the Central government regarding external affairs policy, and we are fully supporting them,” Mamata Banerjee said.
Earlier, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee said that although party extends its entire support to Centre on the matter of national security, yet it is not in the hands of Centre to decide who will represent the party.
The Centre has picked 51 MPs cutting across the party line as part of the 7 delegations that will travel to key partner countries to put forward India's stance against terrorism in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor.
