PTC Web Desk:  The BJP has reprimanded three of its Delhi Lok Sabha MPs after they visited the residence of former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar to offer condolences to his family following his death.

The MPs, Kamlajeet Sehrawat, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Yogender Chandolia, visited Sajjan Kumar’s home recently and met his family members. According to party sources, BJP president Nitin Nabin expressed displeasure over their decision to attend the condolence visit.

Sajjan Kumar died on August 20 while serving life sentences in cases related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. A prayer meeting for Kumar is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on Saturday.

He said the BJP had stood with riot survivors and supported their long-running demand for justice. According to Phoolka, offering condolences at Kumar’s residence was therefore inappropriate.

“Sympathy should be reserved for victims and their families,” Phoolka said, adding that many families affected by the violence continue to live with the memories of the riots.

He also called for a boycott of the three MPs.

The BJP clarified that the three MPs did not visit Kumar’s residence as official representatives of the party. BJP spokesperson RP Singh said the MPs had gone there in their personal capacity.

“The three MPs went to the house of Sajjan Kumar in their personal capacity and not as party persons,” Singh said.

Who are the three MPs?

All three MPs represent Delhi constituencies that were formed after the old Outer Delhi parliamentary constituency was reorganised.

Ramvir Singh Bidhuri is the MP from South Delhi.

Kamlajeet Sehrawat represents West Delhi.

Yogender Chandolia is the MP from North West Delhi.

Sajjan Kumar had earlier represented the erstwhile Outer Delhi constituency in the Lok Sabha as a Congress leader.

Sajjan Kumar was convicted in connection with the killings of Sikhs during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that followed the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

He was convicted for the murder of two Sikh men in Delhi’s Raj Nagar area and received a life sentence. He was also serving another concurrent life sentence in a separate case linked to the 1984 violence.
