Lok Sabha Polls 2024: Former Congress MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy joins AAP

Lok Sabha Polls 2024:  Former MLA of Indian National Congress, Dalvir Singh Khangura, also known as Goldy joins Aam Aadmi Party ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Punjab which is scheduled to take place on June 1.  The counting of votes to take place on June 4. 

Former MLA quits Congress on Tuesday, days after expressing “disappointed with Punjab Congress leadership” over being denied the party's ticket from Sangrur.


In his resignation letter to Congress's Punjab chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Goldy said he was "upset" with the state leadership and was resigning from the party's primary membership.

Taking to his Facebook handle, Goldy also shared his resignation letter and wrote, “With a heavy heart, I am making this decision. My family and close friends know how difficult it was for me to take this decision."

Dalvir Singh Goldy Political Career 

Dalvir began his journey in student politics by contesting and winning the position of College Representative at S.D. College in 2002. Subsequently, he was elected as the President of the Student Union Of Panjab University (SOPU) in 2003–2004. Continuing his academic pursuits, Dalvir joined Punjab University, Chandigarh, where he served as the President of the Punjab University Campus Student Counsel during the academic year 2006–2007.

Transitioning into mainstream politics, Dalvir joined the Youth Congress in 2007, actively participating at various levels within the Congress party. He also assumed the role of Chairman at Panchayati Raj Sangathan in the District of Sangrur.

In the realm of legislative politics, Dalvir contested the 2017 legislative assembly elections from Dhuri, Punjab, as the candidate representing the INC party. He emerged victorious, securing 49,349 votes and winning by a margin of 2838 votes. However, in the 2022 assembly elections, Dalvir faced defeat, losing to Bhagwant Singh Mann with a substantial margin of 58,206 votes.
