Delhi excise policy case: High Court rejects plea seeking removal of Arvind Kejriwal as CM

PTC Web Desk: The Delhi High Court on Thursday declined to entertain a petition seeking the removal of Arvind Kejriwal from his position as Chief Minister of Delhi while he remains in Tihar Jail following his arrest in the Delhi excise policy case. A Division Bench of the Delhi High Court stated that "it is up to Kejriwal to decide whether he should continue as CM or not".

Stressing the importance of national interest over personal considerations, the Delhi High Court suggested that the petitioner should approach the constitutional authorities. "At times, personal interest has to be subordinated to national interest, but that decision rests with Arvind Kejriwal," the Delhi High Court remarked. The Bench also questioned the petitioner about any precedent where the court imposed President's rule or Governor's rule.

The petition had been filed by Vishnu Gupta, a social worker and the national president of the Hindu Sena. However, Gupta later withdrew his petition and expressed his intention to present his case before the Lieutenant Governor. The petitioner's counsel highlighted the perceived "governmental vacuum" in the national capital following Arvind Kejriwal's arrest on March 21 in the Delhi excise policy case.

'Not a time of celebration...': AAP leader Sanjay Singh after walking out of jail

After being released from the Tihar jail on Wednesday following bail granted by the Supreme Court in connection with the alleged Delhi excise policy case, AAP MP Sanjay Singh said "it's not a time for celebration but for collective action, especially as key AAP leaders, including the party's top figure Arvind Kejriwal, remain jailed."

Speaking upon his release after spending over six months in jail, Sanjay Singh said, "This is not a time of celebration but a time of war. We all have to struggle together." Highlighting the absence of Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain, he stressed the need for concerted effort in the face of adversity.

THE AAP MP  urged party supporters to mobilise across Delhi, rallying behind both AAP and INDIA bloc candidates in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, in a gesture of solidarity, he also visited Manish Sisodia's residence, where he met with Sisodia's wife and other family members.
