Laal Hit Janta Party vs Cockroach Janta Party: New outfit challenges CJP protests in Delhi

PTC Web Desk: A new group called the Laal Hit Janta Party has appeared in Delhi to oppose the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The group’s arrival has already got people talking on social media.

The group held its first membership meeting on Sunday at Malviya Smriti Bhawan. Its convener, Ayan Bhatnagar and other speakers criticised the CJP, the Congress and the protesters. They claimed the demonstrations weaken constitutional institutions and hurt business.

Not here to fight elections

Bhatnagar said the party was not created to contest elections. According to him, its goal is to oppose the CJP’s campaign, counter its arguments through debate and gather support peacefully.

“We stand against the CJP and its protests,” he said. He accused the other side of trying to weaken democracy and create chaos in the country.

He said the group would hold meetings of different sizes to put its views across. He also dared the CJP to a public debate. “If you win, it will be your victory, and if we win, it will be ours,” he said.

Appeal to young people

The group asked young people to take part in democracy through peaceful protest, factual communication and within the law. It also said the independence and credibility of constitutional bodies, including the Election Commission, must be protected.

Filmmakers Richa Gupta, Pawan Nagpal and Atul Gangwar also spoke at the event.

Bhatnagar said the meeting was meant to discuss future plans and to show that the group can bring people together at short notice. He also asked how many people would turn up if Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a gathering.

Background

The CJP has been holding protests in Connaught Place and other parts of Delhi, demanding that Gyanesh Kumar resign. Some traders and business groups have criticised the protests, saying they are disrupting trade during the busy season.

With the Laal Hit Janta Party now openly opposing the CJP, the argument over democratic institutions, protest and accountability is playing out more and more in public.
