Special Assembly session in June was breach of law: Punjab Governor to CM Mann
Chandigarh, July 17: In what may be termed as a fresh salvo fired by Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the former on Monday alleged that the Special Punjab Vidhan Sabha session, organised by the Aam Aadmi Party government on June 19-20, was conducted in violation of legal procedures.
The statement by Governor Banwarilal Purohit now raises concerns about the legality of the four Bills that were passed by the Assembly during that session.
In response to a letter from Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Governor Banwarilal Purohit has stated that he received legal advice suggesting that the Special Punjab Vidhan Sabha session held on June 19-20 was in violation of legal procedures. The Governor's response comes after CM Mann accused Governor Purohit of delaying the assent to the Sikh Gurudwara (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which aimed to remove the monopoly on the telecast of Gurbani from Darbar Sahib by a news channel owned by a political family. The mentioned Bill, along with the Punjab Police Amendment Bill, was submitted to the Governor for approval on June 26, 2023.
