Balwant Singh Rajoana urges Sri Akal Takht Sahib to withdraw mercy plea and summon BJP leadership
PTC News Desk: Balwant Singh Rajoana has appealed the BJP's entire Sikh leadership must be summoned at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. In a letter addressed to the Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, Rajoana questioned the unnecessary delay in decision over his pending mercy petition.
In his letter, Rajoana said that a long time has passed since the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) filed an appeal seeking a stay on his execution, but no decision has been taken so far. He said that the SGPC should either withdraw its petition or summon the BJP's Sikh leadership and seek an explanation for the prolonged delay in deciding the matter.
Rajoana in his letter said that it's been 31 years since he has been incarcerated and 19 years of being confined in a death cell awaiting execution. He urged the Akal Takht to either free him from what he described as the political conspiracies of those in power or summon the BJP's prominent Sikh leaders and ask why a decision that should have been taken within six months has still not been made even after 15 years.
Referring to the legal proceedings, Rajoana said that the Chandigarh Sessions Court had issued his death warrant on March 31, 2012. He wrote that at that time he had dedicated his struggle to Sri Akal Takht Sahib and accepted the death sentence without protest.
He further stated that he never asked Sri Akal Takht Sahib to issue any directive to stop his execution, nor did he request the SGPC to file a mercy petition before the President. He also said that he never asked the Union Home Ministry to stay his sentence.
Rajoana concluded by saying that even today, after spending 19 years in the death cell, he continues to wait for a final decision on his case.
