CM Mann reacts over farmers' detention ahead of protest march, says 'Punjab can't be a dharna state'

PTC News Desk: The tension between farmers and ruling AAP government seems to be mounting as both the parties locked horns during the meeting ahead of the 'Chandigarh Chalo' protests organised by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on March 5.

A day after CM Bhagwant Mann walked out of the meeting in a huff, Punjab police conducted raids on the residences of the farm leaders on Tuesday and detained several protestors ahead of their planned demonstration in Chandigarh, said farm leaders.

While confirming the development Chief Minister said that he did walk out of the meeting and will not the let the farmers to hold protest and sit on tracks resulting in public inconvenience.

"Yes, I left the meeting, and we will detain them as well...Won’t allow farmers to sit on tracks and roads," Mann said.

He further said that he had asked the farmers to call off the strike as the state is becoming a dharna state.

"I told farmers that every day you hold 'rail roko', 'sadak roko' protest...This is causing immense losses to Punjab. The state is facing economic losses. Punjab is becoming a state of 'dharna'. Don't take my soft-heartedness into thinking that I do not take action," CM Mann added further.
