Giani Harpreet Singh relieved of duties; Giani Jagtar Singh is acting Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib
PTC Web Desk: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has officially terminated the services of Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh following an executive committee meeting held at the SGPC headquarters, Teja Singh Samundri Hall, on Monday. The meeting was presided over by SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami.
During the session, the SGPC accepted the findings of the committee investigating Giani Harpreet Singh, leading to the decision to dismiss him. While some SGPC members opposed the decision, the majority approved it.
Giani Harpreet Singh had already been suspended, and disciplinary proceedings were underway against him. The SGPC had formed an inquiry committee to investigate allegations of misconduct and administrative irregularities.
The inquiry against Giani Harpreet Singh began after Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Sri Muktsar Sahib, filed a complaint against him with the SGPC president on December 16, 2024. Gurpreet Singh claimed that he was married to the Jathedar’s sister-in-law but alleged that the Jathedar interfered in his married life, leading to his divorce.
He further accused Giani Harpreet Singh of using his influence to harass him through legal cases and claimed that he was dismissed from his SGPC job, which led him into depression.
