Hoshiarpur tragedy: Death toll mounts to seven in massive LPG explosion as blaze spread to homes

PTC Web Desk: Panic gripped the area near Adda Mandialan, near Hoshiarpur in Punjab, after an LPG gas tanker caught fire late Friday evening, killing seven  people and critically injuring several others. The massive blaze quickly spread to nearby houses and shops located along the roadside. Several people sustained burn injuries in the incident, while property damage is reported to be extensive. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the flames, and rescue operations are underway.

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain stated that the fire tenders, ambulances, and Punjab Police were quickly deployed to the scene.

"The fire broke out, probably due to a road accident. Patients with burn injuries have been admitted to the hospital... One casualty has been reported... It appears that a gas leak occurred following a road accident involving a gas tanker... This is an industrial area, so there may be some migrants who are injured here," said Jain.

Punjab Minister Ravjot Singh visited the accident site and hospital, promising government support to the affected families.

Doctors at the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur, confirmed that two individuals have succumbed to injuries so far, while 5–6 patients are critically ill. More than 20 others have sustained over 80 % burns.

The civil hospital is reportedly overcrowded with injured victims, as medical teams struggle to provide immediate treatment. Eyewitnesses described scenes of horror, with one victim recalling he was taking a bath when flames suddenly engulfed his house. Six members of his family were injured in the fire.

Local residents said all nearby shops and houses along the roadside were completely gutted. The road has been blocked due to the blaze, and multiple fire tenders have been deployed to douse the flames and prevent further spread. Rescue operations are still underway, and the authorities are working to assess the full extent of the casualties and damage. More deaths are feared.
