PTC Web Desk: The Mohali Municipal Corporation has introduced a new rule regarding pet animals and dogs found roaming on the streets. According to the new regulation, if a pet or dog is found wandering unattended, it will be seized by the authorities. To reclaim the animal, the owner will have to pay a fine of Rs 20,000.

If the owner fails to collect the animal within the given time, it will be auctioned by the Municipal Corporation. Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has, however, raised concerns about the implementation of this rule.

He said although the decision was appropriate in principle, it was unclear how it would be enforced due to lack of proper arrangements.

Bedi pointed out that the Corporation did not have adequate facilities to house the seized animals.

He also mentioned that while this rule might work in central Mohali, it would be difficult to implement in rural or surrounding areas. In these outer areas, many residents keep cattle for milk production, and their animals often stray onto roads.

He questioned how such cattle owners would afford to pay heavy fines, calling for a more practical approach before enforcing the rule.
