Punjab voters face hot weather on voting day; water coolers, chabeel set up to beat the heat

There has been no relief from the ongoing heatwave that has been sweeping Punjab for several days. Chandigarh also continued to swelter, with the maximum temperature reaching 45.8°C.

Punjab voters face hot weather on voting day; water coolers, chabeel set up to beat the heat

PTC Web Desk: There has been no relief from the ongoing heatwave that has been sweeping Punjab for several days. Chandigarh also continued to swelter, with the maximum temperature reaching 45.8°C.

In Punjab, intense heat prevailed in Patiala, which reached 46 degrees, while Amritsar reached a high of 45.2°C.


The maximum temperature in Ludhiana was 45.4°C, in Pathankot it was 45.8°C, and in Gurdaspur it was 44°C.

Meanwhile, chief electoral officer Sibin C stated that drinking water, shades, 'chabeel' (sweetened water), and medical kits have been made available at polling stations to help voters beat the heat.

In the south Malwa region, the administration stated that in addition to cool drinks and air coolers, saplings and packed manure will be distributed to voters who arrive at polling stations in various locations across Punjab's southwest region. Furthermore, staff at various government hospitals have been put on alert to assist victims of heatstroke.

Voting for all 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab began this morning, including Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Khadoor Sahib, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Anandpur Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Firozpur, Bathinda, Sangrur, and Patiala.

The seventh phase concludes the world's largest polling marathon.
