SC commission orders action against Raja Warring over racial remarks against Boota Singh; summons Kapurthala DSP to Chandigarh

PTC Web Desk:  Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring is facing mounting legal trouble after Punjab SC Commission chairman Jasbir Singh Garhi took serious note of his alleged racial remarks against former Union Home Minister Boota Singh.

Garhi questioned DSP Hargurdev Singh of Kapurthala in Chandigarh, asking why no action has been taken against Raja Warring yet. The DSP replied that a forensic analysis of the video was underway and would take about a week to 10 days to complete. Boota Singh’s son has also submitted an SC certificate to support the complaint. Following this, Garhi directed the police to take action against Raja Warring at the earliest.

Criticising the police for inaction, Garhi said, “Raja Warring is not some Robin Hood who cannot be found. He has been moving freely in Tarn Taran and Nawanshahr. This is like a hunter holding his dogs by the leash while the rabbit runs in the open.”

The controversy stems from a November 4 election campaign speech in Tarn Taran, where Raja Warring allegedly made derogatory remarks about Boota Singh’s skin colour and background. Following a complaint by Boota Singh’s son Sarbjot Singh Sidhu, an FIR was filed in Kapurthala under Sections 353 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3(1)(u) and 3(1)(v) of the SC/ST Act.

In his speech, Warring allegedly said: "You must have heard of Boota Singh. He was dark, very dark, used to feed cattle, and the Congress made him the Home Minister of India."

The incident has triggered widespread criticism, with many calling it insensitive and casteist, while the Congress leadership has yet to issue an official response.
