PTC Web Desk:  Punjab continues to witness a surge in stubble burning cases as farmers set crop residue ablaze across several districts. According to the latest data from October 29, 2025, a total of 283 new stubble fire incidents were recorded in the state, taking the season’s cumulative tally to 1,216 cases so far.

Sangrur district once again topped the list with 79 incidents, emerging as the worst-affected area. Tarn Taran followed with 43 cases, while Ferozepur (32), Patiala (25), and Bathinda (19) also reported a significant number of farm fires. Other districts such as Mansa (16), Kapurthala (12), and Barnala (11) reported moderate activity, while Malerkotla (10), Jalandhar (6), Muktsar (6), and Fatehgarh Sahib (7) showed relatively fewer cases.

The state’s industrial hubs like Ludhiana (4) and Amritsar (2) reported minimal incidents. Smaller districts, including Moga (2), Faridkot (1), Fazilka (1), Gurdaspur (1), Mohali (2), and SBS Nagar (1) also contributed to the rising tally.

Environmental experts have raised concerns over the escalating pollution levels, warning that unchecked stubble burning could deteriorate the air quality across North India, especially the National Capital Region (NCR). The Punjab government has urged farmers to adopt eco-friendly residue management practices and avoid burning crop waste, but compliance remains a major challenge despite ongoing awareness campaigns and enforcement drives.
