Mohali, February 8: Activists seeking the release of Bandi Singhs were lathicharged at the Chandigarh-Mohali border on Wednesday. The police also used water cannons to stop the protesters from marching towards Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann's residence.

As per information, the activists tried to break the barricade while crossing the Chandigarh-Mohali border.

As per information, the situation became tensed when a clash broke out between Chandigarh Police and protesters demanding the release of Bandi Singhs at Chandigarh-Mohali border. 

Several chowks across Mohali have been blocked by protesting farmers since January 7. However, today, several vehicles were vandalised by mischievous elements.

Sources said one bus, a bike, water tank and three police gypsies were vandalised in the clash. Miscreants pelted stones at the windshields of the vehicles and deflated tyres. There were bricks and stones all over the road.

As per eyewitness, some horse-borne miscreants brandishing swords headed towards police personnel. The situation turned tensed when the protesters began their march towards the Chandigarh side.  There are reports of Chandigarh police personnel and some mediapersons receiving injuries in the clash.

Meanwhile, the Chandigarh DGP said they could not allow activists seeking the release of Bandi Singhs to march towards the Punjab CM's residence owing to security reasons. 

"We tried to pacify the protesters, but a group of people came forward and broke the barricades. We were forced to use the water cannons to disperse the protesters, Our employees were also injured in the melee," the Chandigarh's top cop added.
