Punjab's per capita income lower than national average
Punjab per capita expenditure and income: For the first time, Punjab's per capita expenditure is below the national average. Likewise, Punjab's per capita income has also slid to below the national average.
A report stated that the state of Punjab is no more the prosperous state that it used to be.

As per the report, Punjab's per capita income is Rs 1,15,882, lower than the national average of Rs 1,16,067.
It is for the first time that the average income of Punjab is less than the income of its counterparts.

Slamming the Punjab government, the Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal stated that "For the 1st time, Punjab's per capita expenditure is below the national average. The latest statistics reveal that state expenditure in the social sector has also declined drastically. Shameful that Punjab government did nothing for the underprivileged in the state."
The state's per capita expenditure is most important for states as it affects the growth process of the state economy. Reportedly, Punjab is spending just Rs 869 per person as capital expenditure against the national average (of major states) being at Rs 3,509.
Meanwhile, Goa is spending the highest on building its assets and continues its economic growth i.e. Rs 14,804. On the other hand, Haryana is spending Rs 6,038.
The only three sectors where Punjab is taking the lead are school education, quality index, and the India Innovation Index.
