PTC News Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to travel to Punjab on October 20 and visit Mansa district to meet slain anti-drug activist Parvinder Jhota's family to offer his condolences. The development was confirmed by BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu.

Bittu on his social media platform shared the details and said Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit to Punjab on 20th October. He further said that Punjab needs strong leadership and a firm resolve at a time when drug menace has severely gripped the entire state.

"At a time when Punjab is battling the grave menace of drugs, we need decisive action, strong leadership and a firm resolve to secure our youth and our future. The AAP Govt in punjab has lost his mandate much before his completion of term," Said Ravneet Bittu in his social media post.

Punjab’s political atmosphere is heating up ahead of the Union Home Minister’s visit. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has been facing persistent criticism over the issue of drug abuse, and just a few days ago, the Union Home Ministry sought reports from Punjab’s Chief Secretary in connection with three drug-related cases in the state. According to Ravneet Bittu’s statement, political observers see the minister’s visit as part of the BJP’s strategy to intensify the political debate over the drug problem in Punjab.

Days after anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota was shot dead in broad daylight in Mansa following a violent confrontation over sale of drugs in the town, the Union Home Minister criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the state over law and order situation and its handling of drugs.

Amit Shah said Jhota’s father had made serious allegations against the AAP government and its MLAs. He said the Union Home Ministry had taken serious note of this and would ask the Punjab government for a response.

Addressing the Chief Minister directly, Amit Shah said, “Bhagwant Mann ji, the people of Punjab want answers, not empty publicity. They need solid results, not hollow announcements.”

Parvinder Singh Jhota shot dead in broad daylight

Parvinder Singh Jhotta, who led an anti-drug task force in Mansa, Punjab, was shot dead by a medical store owner on Tuesday morning, according to preliminary reports. The bullets were fired from close range and reportedly passed through his body.

The family has refused his cremation until justice is served. Jhota's family has also demanded a CBI investigation into the killing and said that the Chief Minister must resign.

One of Jhotta’s associates was also seriously injured in the incident. After learning about the murder, a large police force reached the spot. Meanwhile, Jhotta’s supporters began gathering at his residence.

Jhotta had been actively opposing drug abuse and drug sales in Mansa for a long time. He reportedly tried to stop the sale of drugs and also confronted people allegedly involved in the trade. These efforts had led to several disputes in the past.

At his initiative, several village panchayats had also passed resolutions against drug abuse and trafficking.
