Dismissed AIG Raj Jit Singh surrenders to Patiala Police six years after on the run
PTC News Desk: Dismissed AIG Raj JIT Singh, who had been absconding since 2019, surrendered to the Patiala Police and was subsequently arrested after being six years on the run.
He was absconding after being booked n cases linked to a suspected drug-smuggling and extortion racket.
Rajjit Singh was dismissed from service in April 2019 after an investigation ordered by the Punjab and Haryana High Court found alleged links between him and dismissed Inspector Inderjit Singh.
Inderjit Singh had been accused of being involved in a drug-smuggling and extortion network. The High Court investigation also raised questions about Rajjit Singh’s alleged role and his links with Inderjit Singh and other senior police officials.
Two cases registered in 2019
Rajjit Singh was booked in two separate cases in 2019.
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau registered a case over allegations that he had assets beyond his known sources of income. The Special Task Force also booked him in connection with allegations of extortion, falsely implicating people in drug cases and allegedly protecting drug smugglers.
After the Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected his bail plea, Singh went into hiding. A lookout circular was later issued as authorities continued efforts to locate him.
Name emerged in police-drugs nexus Probe
Singh’s name came up during the wider investigation into the alleged links between police officials and the drug trade involving Inderjit Singh.
The High Court had earlier ordered investigations into the alleged involvement of senior police officers. Authorities also examined Singh’s financial assets as part of the probe.
