EC junks reports of Congress MP Dharamvir Gandhi, family's name missing from SIR draft electoral rolls

PTC News Desk: The Election Commission on Friday dismissed the reports suggesting that Congress' Patiala MP Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi and his family's names have been removed from the draft electoral rolls in Punjab published under the Special Intensive Revision.

The EC has now issued a statement here dismissing the reports, clarifying that the names of Dr Dharamvir Gandhi and his family members are present in the draft electoral roll published on August 13, 2026.

The statement reads, “Dr Dharamvir Gandhi, Member of Parliament, as well as his family members, wife Jagdamba Kaushal, daughter Rohani Prashar, daughter-in-law Chahat Sahuja, and son Nabendhu, are very much a part of the Draft Electoral Roll published on 13th August 2026. They are registered as electors in AC No 115 – Patiala, Part No 98, at Serial numbers 44 to 48.”

The development follows Congress MP's claims that the names are missing from the rolls, however it was later added following the prescribed procedure. According to Dr Gandhi, notices have been sent to four members of his family — his wife, son, daughter and daughter-in-law. He added that his wife also holds a diplomatic passport.

The MP said he has all the necessary documents related to these family members. He explained that the relevant data of the family members has not yet been mapped, which appears to be the reason why the notices were issued.

The family has also provided copies of the notices issued to them.
