LPU protest: Police issue clarification over viral 'walkie talkie video' as Sukhbir Singh Badal raises question
PTC News Desk: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal has raised serious questions about the Punjab government and police over the incident at Lovely Professional University (LPU).
Sukhbir Badal claimed that some people carrying walkie-talkies and weapons were found inside the university. He said students caught them and handed them over to the police.
The SAD president claimed that the people detained were outsiders, suggesting that the incident could be linked to a larger conspiracy. He also questioned where the police had registered an FIR after their alleged arrest.
He said this was not the first time questions had been raised about the Aam Aadmi Party government over such incidents. Referring to an earlier case in Malerkotla, Sukhbir Badal mentioned a case involving AAP leader Naresh Yadav.
Sukhbir Badal also targeted Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders from Delhi. He alleged that such incidents were being used to divert public attention from the alleged ₹10,000-crore scam that reportedly came to light during recent ED raids, as well as issues related to government bungalows in Chandigarh.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal questions police action
Earlier, MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal also reacted to the LPU incident and questioned the alleged police lathi charge.
She said police were describing it as a “minor lathi charge”, while videos appeared to show alleged pushing and physical clashes involving young people, including women.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal said students from across the world come to LPU to study and that such an incident also raises questions about the law-and-order situation in Punjab.
Meanwhile, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said that those involved in creating trouble would be identified and action would be taken against them. An FIR has been registered in the case and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is conducting the investigation.
According to the DGP, resolving the students’ concerns and problems is currently a priority for the police and administration.
