Farmers' protest: The MPs of Shiromani Akali Dal and Bahujan Samaj Party on Monday continued to protest outside the Parliament on Day 5 of the Monsoon Session against farm laws.
Shiromani Akali Dal has been raising its voice against farm laws both inside and outside the Parliament from the Day 1 of the Monsoon Session 2021.
The party has already announced a boycott of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting on Covid-19 in protest against the use of brute majority to block adjournment motion moved by the party to demand repeal of farm laws.
On Sunday, the SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said that "Our story with BJP was over; SAD will neither compromise on farmer issues nor allow farm laws to be implemented in Punjab."
There is a need for regional parties to come together and form a national front for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, he added.
Thousands of farmers have been protesting at Delhi borders for months but the government has been a mute spectator.
Farmers have been protesting against the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
