Women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana postpones wedding after father hospitalised; fiance also admitted
PTC Web Desk: Indian women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana has put her wedding celebrations on hold after her father suffered chest pain and was rushed to a hospital on Sunday. The incident occurred during the ongoing ceremonies in Sangli, Maharashtra, where preparations had been underway for a week.
According to initial reports, an ambulance was urgently called to the venue after her father, Srinivas Mandhana, complained of severe discomfort similar to cardiac symptoms. He was immediately shifted to a nearby medical facility for evaluation and treatment.
Family doctor Dr Naman Shah confirmed that Mandhana is under close medical observation after tests showed elevated cardiac enzyme levels, alongside high blood pressure.
“At around 1.30 pm, Srinivas Mandhana complained of chest pain, medically known as angina. He was brought to the hospital promptly. After conducting ECG and other tests, we found elevated cardiac enzymes, so monitoring is necessary,” Dr Shah informed.
In an unexpected turn, Smriti’s fiance, music composer Palash Muchhal, also had to seek medical attention due to deteriorating health. Sources confirmed that he developed symptoms linked to viral infection and acidity. After treatment at a private hospital, Palash was discharged and returned to his hotel as his condition was not serious.
With both families prioritising health, the remaining ceremonies and the wedding, scheduled for Sunday, have been postponed indefinitely. New dates will only be finalised once Mandhana recovers and doctors give clearance.
The celebrations in Sangli had begun days earlier, with close family and friends gathering for the much-anticipated wedding. However, Smriti reportedly refused to proceed with the ceremony without her father present.
