New Delhi, August 15: In a tribute to India's vibrant and diverse textile legacy, Google, the renowned search giant, has unveiled a special doodle that beautifully weaves together the country's rich fabric heritage to commemorate its 77th Independence Day.

Crafted by the skilled hands of New Delhi-based artist Namrata Kumar, the artwork is a digital tapestry that draws inspiration from the intricate tapestries of textiles that India is renowned for. The doodle showcases an array of textile "swatches" intricately interwoven, creating a vivid and dynamic portrayal of India's essence.

Through a post on Google's doodle portal, the tech behemoth shared insights into the artist's vision and the inspiration behind this commemorative creation.

The doodle's canvas is adorned with snippets of various textile traditions sourced from across India. These include the Kutch embroidery from Gujarat, the delicate 'Ikat' craftsmanship of Odisha, the intricate 'Pashmina kani' woven textiles from Jammu and Kashmir, and the timeless 'Kasavu' weave from Kerala. This patchwork of textile excellence showcases a harmonious blend of regions from across the country. At its heart, embroidered letters spell out 'GOOGLE,' a fitting centerpiece that melds with the textile artistry.

Namrata Kumar, the creative talent behind the doodle, revealed her thorough research into India's diverse textile craft forms. "My goal was to represent a wide array of techniques, embracing everything from embroidery and distinct weaving styles to printing methods, resist-dyeing practices, hand-painted textiles, and more. Furthermore, I aimed to ensure equitable representation of various geographical regions of our nation," Kumar shared on Google's portal.

Today's Google Doodle serves as an homage to India's Independence Day. This historical day, August 15, 1947, ushered in a new era as India triumphed over British colonial rule, marking the country's journey toward sovereignty and self-governance.
