Vijay Deverakonda faces ire of netizens; #BoycottLigerMovie trending on Twitter
New Delhi, August 20: The boycott Bollywood movement has apparently found resonance in the Southern film industry with the Vijay Deverakonda starrer 'Liger' facing the ire of the netizens.
The upcoming sports drama, produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, directed by Puri Jagannadh, and featuring Ananya Panday in the lead, is scheduled to hit theatres on August 25. However, even before that, the hashtag '#BoycottLigerMovie' began trending on Twitter. Netizens asking for the 'Liger' ban cite a variety of reasons. The main reason why people are boycotting the Telugu film is because of Karan Johar's involvement.
Following the trend, one user wrote, "I will boycott the movie. You shouldn't be associated with KJO or any other from Bullywood. #BoycottLigerMovie #BoycottLiger #BoycottBollywood #BoycottbollywoodForever #BoycottbollywoodCompletely"
Another one stated, "Dear vijay U don't know why people boycott. Because the bollywood always disrespect our culture and the bollywood actor always give statements which can hurt people. A person call himself star because of people's. #BoycottLigerMovie "

Meanwhile, another user said "#BoycottLigerMovie Whoever will try to protect this shitty URDUWOOD will be straight away sent to the list of BOYCOTT ! we are not here to do CHARITY to their families, we want GOOD CONTENT and NATIONALISTIC movies !!"
This is yet another film, after 'Lal Singh Chhadha,' 'Raksha Bandhan,' 'Dobaaraa,' and the yet-to-be-released 'Pathaan,' that netizens have called for a boycott for a variety of reasons.
Speaking about 'Liger,' after several delays due to COVID-19, the producers are now promoting the film vigorously. Dharma Productions released the trailer and music for the film, both of which received excellent reactions from the audience. Vijay makes his Hindi feature debut, and Ananya makes her maiden multi-lingual debut.
