Canada arrests five Indian-origin men in connection with extortion probe targeting auto dealership

PTC News Desk: Five Indian-origin men have been arrested in Canada in connection with an alleged extortion network linked to shootings and arson attacks targeting an automobile dealership in British Columbia.

The RCMP launched Project E_PURSUANCE in June 2025 after the owners of a car dealership reported receiving extortion demands. The dealership’s locations in Surrey and Langley were later targeted in shootings and arson attacks.

The BC Prosecution Service approved charges on October 1 against Sanket Singla, 23, an Indian national; Sahil, 24; Simranjeet Singh, 24; Harsh, 21; and Jagdeep Singh, 24.

Police said the accused face charges including extortion, reckless discharge of a firearm, arson-related offences, firearms trafficking and drug trafficking.

Singla was in India during the investigation. Police said they worked with Canadian immigration authorities, border officials and international RCMP officers to facilitate his return to Canada. He was arrested after arriving in Toronto on October 1 and remains in custody. The other four men were arrested in Surrey and are also in custody.

Investigators seized four firearms, ammunition, magazines and suspected fentanyl, cocaine and opium during the investigation.

Police also said they have found evidence suggesting other people may be involved in extortion and violent incidents across British Columbia and Alberta. More charges could be filed as the investigation continues.

The operation was led by Langley RCMP with support from the BC Provincial Extortion Task Force, CFSEU-BC and the Federal Policing Pacific Region.

Police officials thanked the victims for cooperating and said the case highlights the importance of cooperation between different law enforcement agencies in investigating organised crime.
