Nilakshi Saha Sinha appointed as next Ambassador of India to Armenia

New Delhi, January 17: Nilakshi Saha Sinha, the official translator of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been appointed as the Ambassador of India to Armenia. Nilakshi Saha Sinha has often been seen with PM Narendra Modi. Nilakshi Saha has a good hold on Hindi, English, Bengali and French languages. Nilakshi has knowledge of 15 languages and has accompanied the Prime Minister on 14 foreign tours.

Nilakshi Sinha, currently a joint secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Armenia.

"Ms Nilakshi Saha Sinha, presently Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Armenia," the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official statement. Saha is expected to take up the assignment shortly, MEA added.

In addition, M Sreedharan has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Azerbaijan. M Sreedharan is currently working as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. He is expected to take charge soon. 

An officer of the Ministry of External Affairs or the Indian Foreign Service, who is familiar with the language and culture of the other country, is chosen by the Prime Minister as his translator or interpreter, according to his convenience. Therefore, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved the creation of two posts equivalent to the level of Joint Secretary in the cadre of interpreters of the Ministry of External Affairs.
