‘State of country is heartbreaking’: 1971 war-veteran Wing Commander Devender Jeet Singh Kler explains about Bangladesh crisis
Bangladesh Crisis: Discussing the situation in Bangladesh, 1971 war veteran Wing Commander Devender Jeet Singh Kler expressed his dismay, stating that the current condition of the country is truly heartbreaking. He emphasised that the ongoing unrest could not simply stem from a student protest.
Kler elaborated that mobs are currently in control of everything in Bangladesh, making it challenging to discern who might be backing them. "The present situation in Bangladesh is heartbreaking. There is a lack of control, with arson and riots rampant. It's the mobs that are in charge, and understanding their backers.”
He further suggested that there seems to be a conspiracy behind the ongoing turmoil in Bangladesh. "There is definitely a conspiracy at play here. Hindus are facing severe persecution. This level of unrest cannot be orchestrated by students alone. The students' demands were justified and have been addressed. The formation of an interim government amidst this chaos seems impossible. Only the army can restore order... a curfew should be imposed by the military," he added.
The political climate in Bangladesh has been volatile following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina amid growing protests. Initially spurred by students demanding an end to the quota system for government jobs, these demonstrations have now broadened into wider anti-government protests.
After her resignation, Sheikh Hasina arrived in India on Monday evening.
In response to the crisis, the Cabinet Committee on Security convened on Monday at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence. The meeting included key figures such as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, along with senior officials who were briefed on the situation in Bangladesh.
