Woman dials 911 to report domestic violence, shot dead by police

PTC News Desk: A black woman was shot dead in Los Angeles after she dialled 911, the emergency helpline number in the US, on December 4. The woman had called to report domestic violence.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to the distress call and arrived at her home, but a confrontation there resulted in the cop fatally shooting the black woman.

Niani Finlayson, 27, dialled 911 on the evening of December 4 to report a case of domestic violence in which she claimed her boyfriend "would not leave her alone and then screaming and sounds of a struggle could be heard," according to the LA County Sheriff's department.

When deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrived at the house on East Avenue in Lancaster, they heard people arguing and yelling. The cops forced the door open and discovered the woman holding a large kitchen knife.

According to the cops, the woman threatened to stab her boyfriend for pushing her nine-year-old daughter. She dashed into her boyfriend's apartment, grabbing him with the large eighth-inch blade knife in her hand. The confrontation ended in a fatal shooting, and the woman was shot multiple times in front of her daughter.

The woman was taken to the hospital and declared dead. Homicide investigators were dispatched to the scene, and an investigation is currently underway.

According to the Guardian, the woman dialled 911 and reported that she was inside with her nine-year-old daughter and had been injured by her ex-boyfriend and wanted him removed.

Xaisha, her daughter who also witnessed the shooting of her mother stated "The police lied that my mom was threatening them." She said at a press conference on Thursday alongside her grandparents, "She was my best friend. She was always there for me. It's unbelievable that she's gone and she's not coming back. I miss my mom", calling for Shelton to be prosecuted.
