Amid Covid spike, Gujarat imposes night curfew in 17 towns

Amid surging Covid-19 cases in the state, the Gujarat government has imposed a night curfew in 17 more towns. The state administration has also extended the implementation of night curfew in eight metros and two cities till January 26, said Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday. Surendranagar, Dhrangradhra, Morbi, Wankaner, Dhoraji, Gondal, Jetpur, Kalawad, Godhra, Vijalpore, Navsari, Navsari, Bilimora, Vyara, Vapi Valsad, Bharuch and Ankleshwar are among the cities where night curfews will be implemented. The decision was taken after a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday after which the reviewed Covid-19 guidelines were announced. Also Read | Covid-19 vaccine booster dose to be given after 3 months of recovery On January 7, the Gujarat government had announced a night curfew between 10 pm and 6 am in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Anand and Nadiad. As per Covid-19 guidelines, a gathering of only 150 people is allowed in the open and 50 percent in closed space for any social religious function. The cinema halls, libraries, auditoriums, gyms are also allowed to operate with 50 percent capacity. The public transport both AC and non AC buses can run with 75% of its sitting capacity and standing is barred. The occupancies are restricted in marriages and funerals also with 150 people allowed in the open, 50 percent in closed space for marriage and 100 people are in funerals. As per the latest guidelines, all businesses, offices, shops, shopping malls etc can remain open till 10:00 pm and 75% sitting capacity in the restaurant is allowed. Meanwhile, Gujarat reported 21,225 fresh Covid-19 cases and 16 deaths on Friday. So far, Gujarat has reported around 10,22,788 Covid-19 infections.
