The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday rejected the former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini’s plea for an anticipatory bail in the Balwant Multani case. The court has also rejected Sumedh Saini's demand for CBI inquiry in the case.

Justice Fateh Deep Singh has also dismissed another petition filed by Sumedh Saini for declaring the investigation “non-est” and in violation of a Supreme Court judgement.

For the time being, Sumedh Singh Saini is having no protection from the Court in the FIR registered against him. The FIR has been registered in the case of alleged illegal abduction, detention, torture and custodial death of Balwant Singh Multani in December 1991.

Now, Sumedh Saini has the option to pursue his legal remedies by moving the Supreme Court or either surrender in the court or before the police.

Sumedh Saini had filed the petition following the addition of the murder offense under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to the case.
