Salman Khan house firing: Anuj Thapan commits suicide in Mumbai police custody

PTC News Desk: Anuj Thapan, one of the accused apprehended in the case involving the firing incident at actor Salman Khan's residence, tragically met his demise while in the custody of Mumbai Police. The incident unfolded on Wednesday, with Thapan ultimately succumbing to his injuries in a hospital.

Thapan's situation took a dire turn when he attempted suicide while under the supervision of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch. Rushed to the hospital in response to this desperate act, Thapan's life could not be saved, marking a grim development in the ongoing investigation.

Initially detained alongside another suspect, Sonu Subhash Chander, Thapan was implicated in the supply of firearms to individuals identified as Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal. These individuals are alleged to have discharged multiple rounds of ammunition outside Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartments in Bandra on April 14.

The investigation by the Mumbai Crime Branch has led to the identification of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi as prime suspects in connection with the firing incident. Anmol Bishnoi notably claimed responsibility for the attack in a Facebook post shortly after its occurrence.

Details emerging from the Mumbai Crime Branch shed light on the premeditated nature of the attack. Prior to the actual incident, the perpetrators had conducted reconnaissance on Salman Khan's residence on multiple occasions, including surveillance of the actor's farmhouse. Failing to find Salman Khan at his farmhouse over an extended period, they strategised to carry out the assault at his Galaxy Apartments instead.

Further evidence uncovered by the Crime Branch includes the retrieval of a firearm from a river on April 22, along with the identification of a footprint belonging to one of the arrested shooters, Vicky Gupta. The shooters allegedly disposed of the weapon in the Tapi River near Surat while attempting to evade capture.

As this remains a developing story, updates will be provided as new information emerges.
